How much new law is there every year?

Today legislation will pass the lower house to repeal 10,000 old laws or about 50,000 pages – how much is that in the grand scheme of things though?

A couple of years ago Chris Berg, Research Fellow at the IPA, produced the video above to try and put some scale to the amount of legislation government produces.

Unfortunately the IPA offices and printing budget isn’t big enough to show all of the laws though so here’s a chart they produced showing the trend from Federation to 2012:
