The point is the implications. If someone has a hundred k under their mattress, sure, there’s at least a good chance they have done something ‘wrong’. Then it becomes 20k. Then it becomes anyone who avoids the banking system in any way. Then it becomes people who don’t use facebook (why wouldn’t you use facebook if you don’t have anything to hide?). It’s simply a way to make everyone a defacto criminal and sooner or later running away from a police officer will be a capital offence like it is in the US.

Not exactly a heinous crime these days, but back in 1984 ….. Was it in Queensland?

Ever heard of Occam’s Razor?

Basically means that if there are several possible explanations for something, be sure that the most obvious is the right one.

So if someone has a hundred grand under the bed ……

Simple answer if you are innocent -get a good lawyer.

With a hundred grand you can afford one.

Gotta love Menzies House, now justifying criminal activity.

Absurd.

In 1984 I had my home, property, vehicle, and all my posessions taken in a similar procedure for having a few pot plants on my property….

People with a hundred grand (and sometimes much more) under the bed did not get that amount from honest dealings.

It is prima facie evidence of wrong doing. Saying that you won it at the races won’t cut it any more.

It is a double injustice as well, because these ill-gotten gains were tax free, while honest workers have to pick up the difference.

If they can not explain how they made the money honestly, lock them up and throw away the key.

The same horrors occur in the quaintly named “family courts” (secret and juryless) whereby the State claims the right to impose unwanted divorces, steal one’s assets and children, and jail arbitrarily if you don’t acquiesce in these outrages. To propogate the racket, they usually reward the party wanting said divorce, which merely heightens the obvious injustice.
