Green with envy

Paul-McCormackThe cultural agenda of The Greens is based on envy, writes Paul McCormack.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.” – Sir Winston Churchill

The Australian Greens are the modern socialist party in Australia. Their media statements are replete with populist appeals yet this conceals a far more sinister agenda. In studying the recent electoral success of the Greens, much attention has been given to their apparent level of conviction. Yes, they do have a certain degree of conviction, as did Vladimir Lenin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot.  However, not enough thought has actually been given to what motivates the Greens and their underlying value system. I believe that in order to understand the Greens, one must understand not just a party that seeks power or influence – for this is the very nature of political parties! – but a party that is driven by envy.

The Greens have a deep antipathy towards people who earn a high level of income. Indeed, their positions regarding income tax indicate that they seek to increase the rate of income tax for wealthy people. This attitude of The Greens and their supporters towards wealth reflects a political preference for wealth redistribution rather than wealth creation. The Greens appeal to their supporters within the public service proletariat, the vast majority of whom have never owned or managed businesses and who will never have to fund their own retirement, cushioned as they are in their comfortable public service world of generous superannuation. However, their own level of financial security does nothing to stymie the envy of Greens politicians or supporters towards people who earn high incomes through their own enterprises and endeavour.

The Greens’ policy on the mining tax was a clear indication of their level of class envy. The 40% rate was passé for Bob Brown and his comrades, who never shirked in their enthusiasm for the super profits tax. Another example of their jealousy is in relation to funding of private schools. The growth and success of independent schools during the Howard Government was a bitter pill for The Greens and their supporters to swallow. John Howard always understood that the success of private and public schools would ensure a healthy level of competition between the two systems, which would ultimately benefit the people who matter most: students. However, the Greens have always been strident opponents of public funding for private schools, which is based less upon a desire to actually improve public education than a jealousy towards wealthy schools.

The cultural agenda of The Greens is based on envy. The advocacy of gay marriage is clearly derived from a deep-seated envy of heterosexual marriage. Heterosexual marriage is based on natural moral law and it is, by definition, exclusive to the unique relationship between man and woman. The Greens cannot tolerate the fact that not all relationships are equal. It is a bind from which they cannot extricate themselves so they attempt to redefine the language of marriage. The rejection of traditional moral norms and values is a characteristic ploy of socialists. It was Mao who avowed that Chinese society, with the advent of communism, was basically a tabula rasa onto which he could draw his own “most beautiful colours.” Similarly, Pol Pot’s brutal reign in Cambodia was ushered in with his famous declaration of ‘Year Zero.’

The aggressive secularism of The Greens is based on a deep-seated hostility towards Christianity. For example, the campaigns by the Greens and those of their ilk to remove the Christian practice of the opening prayer in parliament cannot be explained away by an argument that certain groups should not be given special preference. After all, the Greens do not object to the acknowledgment of “traditional owners of the land” which has assumed the status of a prayer-like ritual at so many public functions. The Greens solicit the support of organised labor (unions) but are spiteful of organised religion. In my opinion, it is only true Christianity – and the political and social conservatism that it fosters – that will defeat the Greens and their agenda because of Christianity’s insistence on objective moral truth.

According to an old English proverb, “envy shoots at others and wounds itself.” The Greens, in advancing their socialist agenda borne out of the politics of envy, are actually doing great damage to themselves. Therefore, it is our duty to defeat the Greens not simply for the good of our countrymen but for their own good as well. As Churchill knew, a rejection of socialism is a prerequisite for attaining true enlightenment, prosperity and freedom.
