Tony Abbott has controversially pushed for a fully paid 6 month maternity leave scheme. It has received mixed reviews.

The policy got short shift by Peter Hartcher. However, considering that he tends to allow Labor to get away with anything I am not going to shed a tear at this article.

The Brisbane Times states that people like it and The Australian has an interesting story that juxtaposes the sceptical attacks by big business and unions with individual voters interest in this policy.

It seems to be a nice way to divert the media from Rudd but the Opposition should look to cut corporate tax rates to make it cost neutral for larger businesses.
